If I were in the Simpsons I’d look something like this

A simpsons version of meI like the Simpsons, although I haven’t watched it for ages.  I fell into watching it on SKY ONE when we got cable in but now:

  1. the Muppets at Virgin can’t work out how to get me Sky One
  2. I’m never in at the right time

Anyhoo, now that the simpsons Movie is coming out I decided to check out the website and found a cool Simpsons character generator.  It’s kinda disturbing how much this guy looks like me.

We now have a gallery of all of us at work done as Simpsons character, which is kind of fun.

In the same vein you can try:

7th Son LogoI grew up listening to audiobooks - books on tape. I used to get a lot of these from the library, but I’ve kind of given up on that. There are so many great fiction podcasts out there which can be enjoyed for free.

One I’ve particularly enjoyed is the 7th Son Podcast Trilogy from JC Hutchins. I downloaded the first two books of the series from podiobooks.com and I’ve been waiting desparately for the third volume.

Well, on July the 7th my longing will end, and the slow pleasurable agony of listening to the podcast week by week will begin. I’m honestly more excited about this than Harry Potter Book 7.

They’re exciting stories and, if you’re not sure if they’re for you, just listen to the first episode - it has an incredible beginning!

Rockbox Rocks

23 June, 2007 (14:38) | Gadgets, technical | No comments

Photo of an iAudio X5Having bricked my router trying to use unofficial firmware, i was nervous about trying it on my iAudio x5 (the sucessor to my fondly remembered but increasingly unstable Iriver h-140,)  however I decided to be brave, and I’m having a lot of fun.

There is a group who have developed a firmware called Rockbox, which runs on many popular MP3 Players including (shudder) iPods.  I was looking for a way to tweak some extra settings, maybe change the theme of the playerm but rockbox does so much more.  I’ve just been playing Doom (I’ve arrived - they’ve ported Doom to my mp3 player!) and sudoku (much more my style) as well as solitaire and looking at the various effects.

I like my music to be organised the way I like it, rather than using the database functions in iPods and other players.  I know what I want to have where.  However, the Rockbox will build an index of all of the files which I have on the drive and let me access that database, as an alternative to the folder system I have.  It may not be used often but I’m glad it’s there!

So far it’s won’t play back videos like the original firmware will, but I may not have installed the right plugins and i don’t really care about video on a screen that size.  If I want to watch video I’ll use my phone.

Now it’s time for a round of “one song to the tune of another”

No, it’s not time for “I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue“, I just wanted to record a site which I found recently (almost certainly via BoingBoing.) It’s a site dedicated to cheesy records and compilations which are no longer available, and it’s called Way Out Junk. There are MP3 files available for download and some of it’s terrific. I’m currently enjoying:

And of course, let’s not forget the inimitable Hayseed Dixie whose reworkings of AC/DC and other groups hits in a bluegrass styleee are incredible.
